04 Oct DAHON Kickstarter Bikes Arrive Worldwide
Backers of DAHON’s first Kickstarter project began receiving their CURL i3 folding bikes last week.
Having launched the product back in March 2017, DAHON achieved their funding goal with backers from around the globe pledging nearly $70,000 to make the CURL a reality. Along the way, bonus extras were unlocked for all pledgers, including free shipping and a purpose-built carrying, rolling and storage bag. The company decided to use Kickstarter to increase lead time and make the bike available to customers in any location around the world. Multi-bike reward levels with an extra discount were available for the benefit of dealers and distributors.
Bikes began shipping to port in July and have now reached backers in the USA, and have landed in more than 15 countries worldwide.
The 12.5kg CURL i3 folds down to a 27 x 54 x 58cm (10.6” x 21.4” x 22.8”) package. The frame is constructed from hydroformed, Dalloy (DAHON alloy), with oversized rectangular tubes and a flip-fold rear wheel design (first seen on Di Blasi folding bikes). Double down-tubes, approach a front triangle. The unique V-shaped coupling between the front and rear triangles turns the bike into a hard-tail. Furthermore, an extra-large head-tube and handlepost are combined with DAHON’s inverted fork stem to provide even more strength and stiffness for steady steering and efficient pedaling. Proper respect is given to structural physics to furnish the much-needed stiffness, durability and safety, far exceeding all safety standards for regular bikes. The removable pedals are stronger and more compact than anything in the league. There is even a roller rack for easy wheeling when folded. With three speeds in an internal hub gear, the CURL offers great range whilst remaining low-maintenance. A telescopic handlebar post and seat post allows for ergonomic adjustment for riders up to 190cm and 130kg.
