The social side of cycling is yet another of bike-ownership’s many benefits (improves fitness, bank balance, carbon footprint, etc. etc.). There are any number of groups rides and free events in every country across the globe, where like-minded cyclists get together and share their passion for two wheels. Events like these are a wonderful way to meet new people, see your local sights and boost the cycling cause.

If you’re anywhere near Cape Town of a full moon, there is a great chance every month to meet up with other Dahon owners and join in the Moonlight Mass. The Moonlight Mass ride is open to everyone and was first founded by Daniel Graham (@Cpt.Grimmy) and Elad Kirshenbaum (@eladkirshenbaum) as a kind of social experiment on twitter. It has since grown to a crowd of more than 1,000 out every full moon to enjoy a casual ride in the name of raising awareness for cycling in the city and the safety of cyclists in the urban environment. Dahon South Africa attends every month, rounding up a group of ‘Dahonies’ (Dahon owners) to meet for a drink beforehand and after. MyCiti bus even extend their operating hours especially for attendees. Hope to see you there!
